The Terrex Anylander Mid Rain.Rdy takes the excellent low-cut version and adds ankle height for walkers who want more stability and weather protection. It fills the gap between a heavy traditional walking boot and a lightweight trail shoe — offering enough support for moderate hiking without the weight penalty that kills your enjoyment on long days out. Here is how it performs after months of testing.
Ankle Support and Protection
The mid-cut collar provides meaningful ankle stability on uneven terrain — rocky paths, rutted bridleways, and slippery descents all feel more secure than in the low-cut Anylander. The collar is padded and lined, preventing rubbing around the ankle bone that plagues many mid-cut boots during the break-in period. These were comfortable from the first walk, with no blisters or hot spots.
Waterproofing
The Rain.Rdy membrane keeps your feet dry in rain, damp grass, and shallow puddles. The higher collar also prevents water splashing in from above, which was the main weakness of the low-cut version. On a 3-hour walk through persistent drizzle and boggy moorland, my feet stayed dry throughout. The breathability is better than Gore-Tex in my experience, with less sweat build-up on moderate-temperature days.
Continental Rubber Grip
The Continental rubber outsole is the same excellent compound found across the Terrex range. Wet rock, greasy paths, slippery steps — the grip is confident where cheaper boots would have you nervously shuffling. The tread pattern handles mixed terrain without clogging in mud, though very heavy clay will eventually build up on any boot.
Comfort for Long Days
The EVA midsole cushions well for all-day walks. I have worn these for 12-mile hikes without foot fatigue, which is impressive for a boot at this weight (around 420g per boot). The insole is basic — replacing it with an aftermarket insole improves comfort noticeably for longer walks. The toe box has adequate room for natural splay, and the lacing system allows you to dial in the fit across the forefoot and ankle independently.
