Adidas Terrex Anylander Rain.Rdy Review: All-Terrain Walking Shoes Tested

The Terrex Anylander Rain.Rdy is Adidas’s answer to the question most outdoor walkers ask: can I get one shoe that handles everything? Dry paths, wet rock, rainy commutes, light scrambling, and dog walks through muddy fields — the Anylander aims to cover it all. After several months of testing across exactly these conditions, here is whether it delivers.

Waterproofing

The Rain.Rdy membrane is Adidas’s own waterproofing technology, and it works well for the shoe’s intended use. In steady rain and damp grass, my feet stayed dry for walks up to two hours. The membrane breathes better than Gore-Tex in my experience, which means less sweat build-up on warmer days. It is not as bombproof as full Gore-Tex in torrential downpours, but for typical British walking conditions, it is more than adequate.

Grip and Outsole

The Continental rubber outsole is the Anylander’s standout feature. Continental (yes, the tyre company) supplies the rubber compound, and the grip on wet surfaces is noticeably superior to most walking shoes at this price. Wet rock, greasy limestone, slippery roots — the Anylander holds its line where lesser shoes would have you sliding. The lug pattern is moderate depth, suited to mixed terrain rather than deep bog.

Comfort and Fit

The shoe fits true to Adidas sizing with a comfortable width through the toe box. The EVA midsole provides enough cushioning for all-day walks without being soft or spongy. Ankle support is minimal — this is a low-cut shoe, so if you need ankle stability on rough ground, consider the mid-cut version. The tongue is gusseted, which keeps debris out on gravel paths.

What Works

  • Continental rubber grip: Best-in-class wet traction at this price point. Genuinely confidence-inspiring on slippery surfaces.
  • Rain.Rdy waterproofing: Effective in typical rain with better breathability than Gore-Tex alternatives.
  • All-day comfort: The EVA midsole and padded collar make these comfortable for extended walks and hikes.
  • Versatile styling: Smart enough for casual wear, rugged enough for trail walking. A genuine everyday shoe.

What Does Not Work

  • Not for running: Despite the Terrex branding, this is a walking shoe. The midsole is too firm and heavy for running comfort.
  • Limited ankle support: The low-cut design offers no protection on uneven terrain. Choose the mid version for rocky paths.
  • Durability question mark: The textile upper shows scuffing and wear faster than leather alternatives. Fine for the price, but not a buy-it-for-life shoe.

The Verdict

The Terrex Anylander Rain.Rdy is one of the best value all-terrain walking shoes available. The Continental rubber outsole alone justifies the price, and the waterproofing works well for British conditions. If you want a single pair of shoes for dog walks, weekend hikes, wet commutes, and general outdoor use, the Anylander handles all of it competently. It will not replace dedicated hiking boots for serious mountain walking, but for everything below the tree line, it is hard to beat.
